It’s the second Tuesday of the month. That means Block Mania! This month’s theme is family. I don’t know about your but my family is a little crazy. It’s part of what I love about it. I look forward to our family reunions at Bear Lake. I made this quilt to celebrate them. It was fun to put each of my children doing their favorite thing at the reunion.

Like most families we are a mix of personalities and interests. We have everything from very technical engineers to creative artists. Our political views are just as varied from far right to far left. Makes for some spirited debates. This quilt was inspired by my grandma and son. Grandma because she said she was the black sheep of the family because unlike her mother and sisters she disliked quilting. My son because he tie dyes everything down to his underwear.

With all this in mind I created wonky nesting hearts as my block for this month’s Block Mania. It’s full of love, but a little off kilter, like my family. If you enjoy a little improv piecing you can take the instructions and play. You might also enjoy some of my other free piecing patterns.

What a fun quilt! Our family is the same – all different but love each other dearly. We even have a tie-dyed sister! Among my three boys we have a priest, an IT guy, and a welder. We’re waiting for a punchline to go with the first line. 🙂

this is so cool thank you I will have fun making this one i love the sheep and that your son tie dyes everything i used to be the same way mom had to finally put a stop to it when i started doing my brothers clothes LOL

Thank you! We all have a wonky family, really. =) I like your tie-dyed sheep, too.

I laughed so hard at the quilt about being the tie dyed one. I was a teenager in the late 60s and early 70s and my strict mother forbade anything tie dyed. What do you think is my favorite. I am wearing tie dyed tshirt as I am reading your blog. Loved the background story and your hearts block.

Your welcome email probably went into my spam box and I deleted all in that box. So please send another and I will look for it this time. Thanks
