I had a cute little Valentine’s Day layer cake I had bought at the quilt market I attended. It needed a home and I wanted to do a little Valentine’s day sewing. Killing two birds with one stone I opened my layer cake and began to get busy. Making a bunch of XOX quilt blocks.
The plan
My Bushel and a Peck pattern is quick and easy. It is layer cake friendly. Plus it makes a great Valentine quilt. So I cut my layer cake into fourths. Found a pretty pale pink in my stash to use as a background. And began to sew.
First I made the X blocks. They take a little longer. Bonus half square triangles were made from the part cut off while making the X’s. I have big plans for another Valentine quilt with those. I will share that creation as soon as it starts to come together.
Next I made the alternate blocks in the pattern. While they are not the same O block featured in today’s tutorial. They give a similar effect. These blocks go together super fast. Before I knew it I was laying them out on my design wall, and auditioning borders.
I’m hoping by the end of the day to have a finished quilt top. I don’t know if I will quilt it with one of the motifs I shared in my video on how to quilt this quilt. Or come up with an alternate design.
