Christmas is just a few days away. Are you feeling stressed with all that needs to be done? Are you ready for a break? I have a solution. Sneak away to your sewing room to destress with a little mindless sewing. Don’t worry about matching seams or pointy points. Just let the scraps fly. Here are a few ideas to get your started.
Grab a bin of pre cut squares. I like 2 1/2″ squares. But you can go bigger or smaller. Start sewing them into groups of two. No need to worry if they match or not. Here’s a secret. Scraps play nice. Just have fun sewing. Next place two together for a fun little stress free four patch. Use them later in a quilt like this one I did for Quiltmaker. They also make a cute baby quilt or throw. Combine them with an alternat block or add sashing. Don’t worry about it now. For now just enjoy the hum of your sewing machine.
Another way I enjoy mindless sewing is to create crumb fabric. Playing with those pretty bits of fabric makes all my cares disappear. Remembering past quilts as I chain growing pieces of this colorful fabric. Then when I’m feeling energized and creative I have ready made fabric to play with.
My final way to destress in the sewing room is to play with my scrappy strips. Sometimes I make strip sets. Other times I make string blocks. Both are great at letting my cares go as I create.
Enjoy your holidays! Remember to treat yourself to a little mindless sewing to keep your stress levels low. Looking for more fun ways to turn your scraps into beautiful quilts. Be sure to join Aunt Em’s Sew Along Adventure.
