Create A Zen Garden with A Jelly Roll

Two of my favorite ways to relax are yoga and quilting.  So I combined the two to create Zen Garden for Fons & Porter’s Quick and Easy Quilts.   All it takes is a jellyroll, background and borders.  It’s perfect for a beginner.  Or if you are looking to make a quick gift to share.

Use repeats in the jellyroll to make the top and bottom garden strips.  If your jellyroll doesn’t have repeats simply piece the strip. I did a combination of both.

Sewing the strips at a 45* angle adds a little zip to the garden path that runs diagonally through the quilt. The different rows are a fun way to practice different free motion quilting motifs.  You may want to try different flowers and leaves.  Or feel free to quilt an all over design.  Look for this pattern in Quiltmaker magazine.

If you are looking for more jelly roll, layer cake and charm square patterns.  You may want to checkout this post.

Did you know you could cut your own jellyroll strips with the AccuQuilt go.  It’s a fun way to use up scraps and stash.

So have a little fun creating a Zen Garden of your own.  Either with a fun jellyroll in your stash, one you purchase or one you make from your scraps and stash.  Go forth.  Have fun.  Create a little Zen.
