Christmas is coming and these cute little drawstring gift bags are a fun way to wrap a gift. Not only are they easy to personalize with different fabrics. They are a gift in unto themselves. The are reusable to store other treasures once the gift is unwrapped. So much better than filling your garbage can with wrapping paper.

Fill them with treats or trinkets. I’ve used them for all sorts of gifts. I’ve filled them with scraps for an exchange.

I pieced the outside panels of the bag filled it with quilting notions for a dear friend. The one below I filled with a jellyroll and charm packs. What quilter wouldn’t love a cute fabric bag filled with fabric. I know my heart would go pitter pat.

There not just for Christmas. Mixing up fabrics you can fit any theme. Here are a few Valentine themed bags. Like I said before these drawstring gift bags can be pieced. So they are very scrap friendly. Have fun making scrappy panels; use strips, mini blocks whatever makes your heart sing.

You can also adjust the size. My tutorial is for a 4 1/2″ diameter that is 7 1/2″ tall.
But you can make your drawstring gift bags bigger or smaller by adjusting the diameter of your circle. Do this by figuring out your circumference C=2πr. Subtract 1/2″ for seam allowance. Then divide in half and add a 1/2″ to the measurement. That will be your panel size going around. For height just cut your desired size and add 1/2″. Have fun! the possibilities are endless.
