Sometimes you just need a quick and easy quilt to make. Well, I’ve got a solution for you. All you need is a layer cake and an afternoon. Looking for a good layer cake? The Fat Quarter Shop can hook you up. They have tons of beautiful fabric. Their prices are good. I like to shop their daily Flash Sales.
Once you have chosen a layer cake you will want to mix and match the squares into sets of two. Next stack the two layer cake squares and cut into 4- 2 1/2″ x 10″ strips. Sew those together into two sets of four alternating the different strips. Then cut the strip set down the middle. Give one of the resulting strips sets a 180* turn and sew together. Finally square up your block. Easy peasy! Here is a video tutorial to give you a visual of the whole process.
Once the blocks are made just sew them together for a 49″ x 57″ throw quilt. Add sashing or borders to make it bigger.
