My scrappy quarter log cabin tutorial is my most popular tutorial. So I decided to make it into a video.
This fun scrap busting block is quick and easy to make. You can arrange the quarter log cabin in a number of ways. Here is one where the blocks are put side by side with sashing. I like the way the blocks twist and turn in this one by Zen Chick. Or by putting four blocks together to make a larger square like this one. I chose to put mine on point. Just because I love a quilt on point.
I may have to revisit this fun block again and try another setting. If you one make sure to share it with me. I’d love to see how you put your’s together. Now here’s the video.

I have made 3 projects using this gorgeous quarter log cabin block. Only one is finished and sitting on my BFF’s dining room table…the other 2 are awaiting their day in my WIP pile. This is my favorite block and I find so much pleasure in using up scraps to make them!
This looks like a very fun and easy way to use up scraps. Thanks, Em!
Years ago I made a half-log cabin using instructions by Sharyn Craig. Those logs were cut the same width — the result was pleasant enough, and scrappy — but very “regular.” The varied widths of the logs in your version provide a lively jiggle! (I think my design preferences have loosened up, too, so that I appreciate wonkiness.)
